MIX MEDIA PERFORMANCE

METAMORPHOSING  (2014)

Camden Peoples' Theatre - Fringe Festival

Metamorphosing is a devised performance about adapting to physical change, caused by natural, traumatic, social or technological consequences. Three characters, each struggling with their own metamorphosis, intertwine into a performance based on movement. The performance co-opts Metamorphosis by Kafka as a metaphor for a post-traumatic  experience after a spinal cord injury.

“Unlike the caterpillar, we remember...We can’t help but look back at the creature we used to be and regret of what we might have lost. This for us is the great irony at the heart of metamorphosis, the same part that realizes the metamorphosis our mind is the same part that fears it the most. Here we are the most changeable creatures and we are so troubled about it, but maybe that’s what being human is all about.” Metamorphosis, The Science of Change (BBC)

"Overall this was a thought-provoking sketch R&D performance which deals with a complicated concept creatively. As a theatre goer I would be pretty interested in seeing the finished product once it has developed further."

Everything-theatre review

"Metamorphosing is a carefully developed idea, worthy of a large audience, Gruengard of course has further to go on his journey, but he knows where he wants to go and has an unconventional, exciting future ahead"
